KEY ISSUES:      • Open & Transparent Government     • Reduce Dependence on Consultants      • Preserve Our Small Rural Community      • Improve Zoning & Fair Code Enforcement POSITIONS:     Deliberative and Directive Council     We need a more Deliberative and Directive Town Council.  Our Council needs to:​ • Set direction and policy and assume a more directive role in Town Government • Require a higher quality of staff work • Take more time to discuss measures in the open and before voting • Reframe the role of the Town Manager to take direction from the Council and ensure that the direction is carried out     Open and Transparent Government    I have presented a plan to the Council detailing 6 steps to accomplish this objective.  You can read the entire plan in the Presentations & Documents.  Briefly here are the main points: • Earlier Publication of the Council Agenda Packet • Restrict Use of the Consent Agenda • Make Meeting Broadcasts Immediately Downloadable • Require Better Analytical Work By Staff • Require Competitive Bidding & Avoid Sole Source Specifications    Community Center Restoration     We need to keep and restore our Community Center.  If elected, I will jumpstart the deliberation by introducing or supporting motions to accomplish the following: • Restore the building • Direct Town Staff to identify possible sources of funding in the existing budget, or • Introduce a substantial line of funding in next year's budget These and other positions have been previously expressed in various ads in the Sun, position papers, and presentations to the Council and other Forums and meetings.
